  1. Training of Tiger Range States personnel in
    • 9 months postgraduate diploma course in Wildlife Institute of India for officers.
    • 3 months certificate course on wildlife management in Wildlife Institute of India - for rangers and equivalent.
    • 10 months postgraduate diploma course on remote sensing applications to forest & eco-system management at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing. (Dehradun)
    • 4 months certificate course on GIS applications in forest management at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing. (Dehradun)
  2. Publication of six monthly newsletter.

B.TAKEN IN HAND

  1. Building a baseline data on distribution & estimated population of tiger at the beginning of the millennium.
  2. Updating of tiger action plan giving physical & financial details & prioritization of types of works.
  3. Promotion of protocols to protect tiger in transboundary areas giving initial priority to the following areas
    • Royal Chitwan/Valmiki/Parsa and Bardia/Sohelwa.
    • Sundarbans
    • The May-U range and Chin Hills
    • Royal Manas and Phipsoo
  4. Follow up of CITIES decision to eradicate the trade in tiger products & where necessary dispose of the existing stockpile.
  5. Participation in Key International conventions to raise awareness & promote actions in International community regarding tiger conservation.
